Professor Paik Choong-Hyun was a professor of international law at Seoul National University from 1968 to 2004. He served as a Dean of SNU Law Faculty, a Vice President for Academic Affairs and Education, and a Dean of the Graduate School.

Professor Paik facilitated the development of international law by serving as a Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Afghanistan for the UN Commission on Human Rights in 1995 to 1998. 

He dedicated his life to teaching, research and promotion of international law. In recognizing of the lifelong contributions to the development of international law and the rule of law, SILA is engaging in diverse activities to further promote his legacy.
